Weddings During COVID-19, Flexibility Is Key!!

It has been a few weeks since I’ve last posted and as a community, we have entered uncharted territory with the COVID-19 experience. As we shift into unprecedented times with restrictions on large gatherings, naturally weddings are a concern. Your initial thought may be doom and gloom but there are options. If your wedding date is fast approaching, contact your planner; they are the experts. A wedding planner can help you negotiate with vendors and figure out the best plan of action for you. Their relationships with vendors are instrumental and can help make a stressful time less overwhelming. If you don’t have a planner, this is the time to reach out and find one. An industry professional can assist you with navigating conversations with your venue, caterer, photographer and of course, your florist.

Couples do have options if their weddings are fast approaching. First, postpone your wedding until the fall or winter. Cool air, warm fires, and a rich, colorful palette are just a few highlights of a fall ceremony. Alternatively, a cozy winter wonderland is a magical time to showcase silver, platinum and shades of crisp, bright white. Legend has it that snow on your wedding day is a sign of fertility and prosperity. As a bonus, many venues have holiday decorations in place that can enhance the look and feel of your ceremony and reception.

Another option is to change the venue! If you can’t reschedule with your venue, home is where the heart is. An intimate gathering with a small group of family and friends at home can work. If your space isn’t large enough, a family member or a friend may be able to accommodate the group.  You can also choose for the two of you to have a small ceremony and host a celebration later in the year where family and friends can celebrate your union. The choice is yours, but you don’t have to cancel your wedding. Flexibility is key.

At the end of the day, only you can decide what is best for you. Just know that all of us in the wedding industry are here to help, we want to work with you and make your dreams come true. Your love for each other is still the most important factor in all of this. Lean on each other. This is the first of many tests in your life together.
